Rosewood area visitors will want to pack their picnic baskets and head to Owens Field on Eclipse Day. Arrive early and stay late to enjoy the skate park, disc golf course and ball fields.
Owens Field Park, on the south side of Columbia in the Rosewood neighborhood, once was part of the city’s first airfield. In its early history, Owens Field offered commercial airline service from both Delta and Eastern Airlines. The first permanent building on the airport, the Curtiss-Wright Hangar, still stands and is being restored, but there is not much physical resemblance between the airport of 1930 and today. As Columbia expanded, portions of the old runway became park land. Today, you can enjoy the skate park, disc golf, baseball and soccer fields with your family.
This event will be handing out free eclipse glasses to guests courtesy of the City of Columbia, S.C.! Glasses will be handed to guests starting at 10am. Guests can come claim their spots as early as 7am. Rangers will be on site to set up amenities at 9am.
