USC Eclipse Station 1: Stellar Collision Disc Golf (Intramural Fields at Gadsden & Devine)

August 21 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Ten outdoor Eclipse Stations will be set up across the USC campus on 8/21 and staffed by USC Eclipse Ambassadors from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Learn about the eclipse, see the sun through a solar telescope, play some games, and get tips for safe viewing and how to get the most out of the eclipse.

Station 1: Stellar Collision Disc Golf
Do stars like the sun ever collide with each other?
To get a real hands-on feel for the vast emptiness between the stars, we shrink the solar system down to the size of a frisbee disc. Try your hand at inducing a “stellar collision” by tossing the disc at some of our nearby stellar neighbors like Proxima Centauri, Sirius, Arcturus, and Spica.

This event will be handing out free eclipse glasses to guests courtesy of the City of Columbia, S.C.! Available on event date and time only.

Located at the USC Rugby Field in Columbia, S.C., hosted by USC Dept. of Physics and Astronomy.
