USC Eclipse Station 9: Tabletop Solar System (East Campus by Gibbes Green)

August 21 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Ten outdoor Eclipse Stations will be set up across the USC campus on 8/21 and staffed by USC Eclipse Ambassadors from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Learn about the eclipse, see the sun through a solar telescope, play some games, and get tips for safe viewing and how to get the most out of the eclipse.

Station 9: Tabletop Solar System

Explore the relative sizes of planets in our solar system with familiar objects like soccer balls and marbles. If the Earth is the size of a baseball, how big would the Sun be? What about Jupiter or Mars?

This event will be handing out free eclipse glasses to guests courtesy of the City of Columbia, S.C.! Available on event date and time only.

Located at USC’s East Campus on the Pickens St. Bridge (north of Davis College)  in Columbia, S.C., hosted by USC Dept. of Physics and Astronomy.
